Statue: Leopold II at Jardin du Roi

The garden (and the statue) were created the year of the king’s death, 1909. The king bought the land in 1873 (as part of a mutually beneficial deal done with the development company building avenue Louise). He bought it to create an urban garden for the people and he bequeathed it to the State provided that it be maintained in its initial state.
